The festive period is upon us and the NBA has a lot in store for basketball fans. The NBA has lined up an exciting set of fixtures for Christmas Day. Several playoff contenders face off against each other, like Nuggets vs Warriors, Heat vs Sixers, Lakers vs Celtics and Mavs vs Suns. Traditionally, Christmas-day games pipe rivals against each other to provide maximum entertainment during the holidays.
Recently, requested the NBA to bring back the Christmas day jerseys. He took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “I do wish we had Xmas day uniforms across the league still. Wonder why it stopped.” It is a tradition which was discontinued by the NBA back in 2017. German sportswear manufacturer, Adidas, started the tradition in 2008. But, the NBA’s current kit manufacturer, Nike, decided to scrap the idea and replace it with city jerseys.
However, this isn’t the first time that King James has expressed dissatisfaction with the discontinuation of Christmas Day jerseys. Back in 2019, LeBron wrote on Twitter, “MAN i wish I walked into the locker room tomorrow and we had Christmas Day uniforms! It’s a MUST we bring those backI’ve been seeing those Lakers unis over the airways. Sheesh!!!!”
While the reign of the Christmas Day jerseys was short-lived, it surely created a huge impact. Many fans and players still fondly remember those classic festive jerseys.
During Adidas’ reign as NBA’s official kit manufacturer, the German sportswear manufacturer tried a lot of different things with the Christmas-day jerseys, with some getting more love than others. From 2008 to 11, the Christmas-day jerseys featured a snowflake around the logo on the front of the team’s jersey. In 2012, Adidas went with a monochromatic color scheme to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Christmas Day NBA games
