Kelly Clarksondelivered a poignant rendition of an Etta James classic.
During Friday's (June 19) remote broadcast, the American Idol alum, who is reportedly in the process of divorcing her husband Brandon Blackstock, channeled her heartache into a moving interpretation of James' "I'd Rather Go Blind." The intimate at-home performance was aired on The Kelly Clarkson Show to honor Juneteenth, the annual Black holiday which has celebrated the end of slavery in the United States since June 19, 1865.
"So you see, I love you so much/That I don't want to watch you leave me baby/Most of all, I just don't, I just don't want to be free no," Clarkson croons in the emotional breakup ballad, rendering viewers heavy with emotion.
"Poor thing by the look in her face you can see she was crying so much pain in her voice." one commenter wrote.
"Honestly I feel her speaking through her music," someone else added. "I can't imagine why she's getting divorced. I feel so devastated for her but at the same time empowered too. She's amazing."
As fans know, it was reported just over a week ago that Clarkson had filed for divorce from her longtime love after six years of marriage. As previously reported, the pop star and Blackstock's marriage had been crumbling for months, but it was while spending time while in quarantine that the couple's issues became too much.
"Kelly and Brandon had been having problems for several months and were making a conscious effort to work things out," a source told Entertainment Tonight when the news broke. "They both hoped quarantining away from L.A. in Montana would help them work things out in their marriage, but instead the change in environment was actually detrimental."
As yet, neither Clarkson nor Blackstock have publicly commented on the situation.
